Yoga to improve butterfly swim

Swimmers of all levels commonly agree that this style of swimming is one of the most difficult to perform. Being an evolution of the breaststroke, the butterfly swim arouses love and hate in several athletes. Also, it is a style that requires a lot of strength, motor coordination and respiratory awareness, and yoga can help a lot with all these issues. In this course we will learn, out of the water and on the mat, how to improve this beautiful technique.

Aspects to be worked on

The butterfly swim demands strength and body synchronicity. Through some yoga àsanas (body postures) it is possible to work these elements intensively, and improve your performance significantly. They are movements and postures that seem simple but that can make all the difference if practiced regularly, for example before training.

This course will present three aspects that will help you with this, they are:

  1. Coordination and body awareness: activation of the whole body (from the feet to the head) and flexibility of the spine completely;
  2. Strength: core region (musculature around the entire torso region, in the spine line);
  3. Superior stretching: arm work, amplitude of shoulder rotation, retroflexion of the spine and opening of the chest.
